AILET UG is a national-level entrance examination conducted by National Law University (NLU), Delhi for admission to its undergraduate (UG) course.

Eligibility:

UG Programme – Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent.

PG Programme – LL.B. degree.

Exam Pattern: Offline (Pen-and-Paper) test consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Mode: Offline (Pen-and-Paper).

Total Questions: 150 Questions for AILET UG.

Total Marks: 150 Marks.

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in December).

Qualification:

  • For AILET UG: Must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • Students appearing for their Class 12 final board examinations are also eligible to apply.

Age:

  • There is no upper age limit for appearing in AILET.

Minimum Marks:

  • For AILET UG:
    • General/EWS: At least 45% marks.
    • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): At least 42% marks.
    • SC/ST/PwD: At least 40% marks.

Attempts:

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

Nationality:

  • Indian and foreign nationals are eligible to apply, subject to the admission rules of National Law University (NLU), Delhi.

Mode: Offline (Pen-and-Paper).

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually December).

Duration: 120 Minutes (2 Hours).

Total Questions: 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Total Marks: 150 Marks.

Question Paper Structure (AILET UG):

  • English Language: 50 Questions (50 Marks) — Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and language skills.
  • Current Affairs & General Knowledge: 30 Questions (30 Marks) — National and international events, legal developments, and general awareness.
  • Logical Reasoning: 70 Questions (70 Marks) — Critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving.

Marking Scheme:

  • Correct Answer: +1 Mark.
  • Incorrect Answer: -0.25 Mark.
  • Unattempted Question: 0 Marks.

Important: Logical Reasoning carries the highest weightage in the examination (nearly 47% of the paper). While legal principles may appear in the reasoning section, no prior technical legal knowledge is required.

Students who qualify through the AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) can apply for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral law programmes offered exclusively by the National Law University (NLU), Delhi.

Undergraduate Course:

  • B.A. LL.B. (Hons.): A 5-year integrated law programme.

Postgraduate Course:

  • LL.M. (Master of Laws): A 1-year postgraduate programme.

Doctoral Programme:

  • Ph.D. in Law and Social Sciences: A research-based doctoral programme.
