CA Foundation Exam

CA Foundation is the first level of the Chartered Accountancy (CA) course in India. It is an entrance exam conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

Students who want to become Chartered Accountants usually take the CA Foundation exam after completing Class 12.

Who Can Apply: Students who have completed Class 12 or are appearing for Class 12.

Total Papers: 4

Total Marks: 400 Marks

Mode: Papers 1 and 2 are written exams. Papers 3 and 4 are objective-type exams.

Frequency: Three times a year (January, May and September).

  • Class 12: You must pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • Registration: You can register for the CA Foundation course after passing Class 10.
  • Exam: You can appear for the Foundation exam after completing Class 12 and meeting ICAI's required study period.

Total Papers: 4 Papers

Marks: 100 Marks for Each Paper

Paper 1 & 2: Written / Subjective Papers

Paper 3 & 4: Objective-Type Papers (MCQs)

Subjective Questions: Questions where you write your own answers.

MCQs: Questions where you choose the correct answer from given options.

Duration:

  • Papers 1 & 2: 3 Hours Each
  • Papers 3 & 4: 2 Hours Each

Negative Marking:

  • Papers 1 & 2: No Negative Marking
  • Papers 3 & 4: 0.25 Marks are deducted for every wrong answer

Passing Criteria: You need at least 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks overall to pass the Foundation exam.

The CA Foundation exam has four papers:

  • Paper 1: Accounting – 100 Marks
  • Paper 2: Business Laws – 100 Marks
  • Paper 3: Quantitative Aptitude – 100 Marks
  • Paper 4: Business Economics – 100 Marks
