CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design)

CEED (Common Entrance Examination for Design) is a national-level entrance examination conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to Master of Design (M.Des) and other postgraduate design programmes.

A graduate interested in pursuing advanced studies in design appears for the CEED examination and obtains a score.

The candidate can use this score to apply for M.Des programmes offered by institutes that accept CEED scores.

Courses may include: Master of Design (M.Des), Interaction Design, Product Design, Communication Design, Animation Design, Mobility Design, and other postgraduate design programmes.

Conducted by: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay).

📌 Quick Facts

Who Can Apply? Graduates and final-year students from eligible degree, diploma, or postgraduate programmes.

Eligibility: Candidates must have completed at least 3 years degree after Class 12.

Exam Pattern: Consists of Part A (Objective) and Part B (Subjective).

Mode: Hybrid (Computer-Based Test for Part A; Pen-and-Paper for Part B).

Frequency: Conducted once a year(usually in January).

  • Qualification:
    • Must have completed a degree or diploma of **at least 3 years** after Class 12.
    • Final-year college students are also fully eligible to apply.
    • Open to graduates from **all streams** (Engineering, Fine Arts, Science, Commerce, Arts).
  • Age Limit:
    • There is **no upper or lower age limit** to write the exam.
  • Minimum Marks:
    • There is **no minimum percentage required** to sit for the CEED exam.
  • Attempts:
    • There is **no limit** on how many times you can attempt the test.

Mode of Examination: Part A: Computer-Based Test (CBT) | Part B: Offline Pen-and-Paper Assessment

Duration: 3 Hours (1 Hour for Part A + 2 Hours for Part B)

Medium: English

Total Marks: 150 Marks (Part A) + 100 Marks (Part B)

Question Types: NAT, MSQ, MCQ (in Part A) and Subjective Drawing/Design Questions (in Part B)

  • MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions): Choose one correct answer from the given options.
  • MSQ (Multiple Select Questions): More than one option may be correct. You must select all correct answers.
  • NAT (Numerical Answer Type Questions): No options are given. You must calculate and enter the numerical answer.

Marking Scheme:

  • NAT (Objective): +4 marks for correct answers, no negative marking.
  • MSQ (Objective): +4 marks for correct answers. Gets partial marks (+3, +2, or +1)also depending on how many correct answers. -1 negative marking for incorrect selections.
  • MCQ (Objective): +3 marks for correct answers. -0.5 negative marking for incorrect choices.
  • Part B (Subjective): 5 subjective questions evaluating sketching, creativity, and design problem-solving skills. No negative marking.

Important: Part B is evaluated only if the candidates who successfully cleared Part A.

CEED scores are used for admission to postgraduate design programmes offered by participating institutes such as IITs and IISc.
