CMA Intermediate Exam
CMA Intermediate is the second level of the Cost and Management Accountancy (CMA) course in India. It tests your knowledge of accounting, taxation, cost management, laws and other areas related to becoming a Cost and Management Accountant.
Students who pass the CMA Foundation examination can move on to the CMA Intermediate course.
Eligible graduates can also enter the CMA Intermediate course directly through the direct entry route.

Qualification:
- Foundation Route: You must pass Class 12 and qualify the CMA Foundation Examination.
- Graduation Route: Graduates in any discipline from a recognized university are eligible for direct admission to the CMA Intermediate Course.
- Engineering Route: Students who have completed the required stage of an engineering course or are qualified engineers may be eligible for direct admission.
- Other Professional Qualifications: Candidates who have qualified certain examinations such as CAT, CA Intermediate or CS may also be eligible for direct admission, subject to ICMAI rules.
Age:
- There is no upper age limit for admission to the CMA Intermediate Course.
Provisional Admission:
- Students awaiting their final degree results may also apply for provisional admission, subject to ICMAI's requirements.
Total Groups: 2 Groups
Total Papers: 8 Papers (4 Papers in Each Group)
Marks: 100 Marks for Each Paper
Duration: 3 Hours for Each Paper
Question Pattern:
- Objective Questions: 30 Marks
- Descriptive Questions: 70 Marks
Objective Questions: Questions where you choose the correct answer from the given options.
Descriptive Questions: Questions where you write answers, explanations or solve problems.
Marking Scheme:
- Correct Answer: Marks are awarded according to the marks assigned to the question.
- Incorrect Answer: No marks are deducted for wrong answers.
- Unattempted Question: No marks are awarded.
Passing Criteria: You need at least 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks overall in a group to pass that group.
The CMA Intermediate examination has eight papers divided into two groups:
Group I:
- Paper 5: Business Laws and Ethics – 100 Marks
- Paper 6: Financial Accounting – 100 Marks
- Paper 7: Direct and Indirect Taxation – 100 Marks
- Paper 8: Cost Accounting – 100 Marks
Group II:
- Paper 9: Operations Management and Strategic Management – 100 Marks
- Paper 10: Corporate Accounting and Auditing – 100 Marks
- Paper 11: Financial Management and Business Data Analytics – 100 Marks
- Paper 12: Management Accounting – 100 Marks
Total: 8 Papers – 800 Marks
