CMAT (Common Management Admission Test)

CMAT is a national-level entrance examination conducted for admission to MBA, PGDM, and other postgraduate management programmes.

CMAT scores are accepted by AICTE-approved institutions, university departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges offering management programmes across India.

Conducted by: National Testing Agency (NTA).

📌 Quick Facts

Eligibility: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

Exam Pattern: Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test).

Total Questions: 100 Questions.

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in January).

Qualification:

  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years duration) in any discipline from a recognized university or institute.
  • Students currently in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply, provided their final results are declared before the start of the admission process for the academic year.

Age:

  • There is no upper or lower age limit for appearing in the CMAT examination.

Minimum Marks:

  • For the Exam: No minimum marks are required to appear for the CMAT examination.
  • For Admission: Some participating institutes may require a minimum of 50% marks for General candidates and 45% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates in the qualifying degree.

Attempts:

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

Nationality:

  • Applicants must be citizens of India.

Mode of Examination: Online (Computer-Based Test).

Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Duration: 180 Minutes (3 Hours).

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in January).

Total Questions: 100 Questions.

Total Marks: 400 Marks.

Sections:

  • Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation: 20 Questions (80 Marks).
  • Logical Reasoning: 20 Questions (80 Marks).
  • Language Comprehension: 20 Questions (80 Marks).
  • General Awareness: 20 Questions (80 Marks).
  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship: 20 Questions (80 Marks).

Marking Scheme:

  • Correct Answer: +4 Marks.
  • Incorrect Answer: –1 Mark.
  • Unattempted Question: No negative marking.

Students who qualify through the CMAT (Common Management Admission Test) can apply for postgraduate management programmes offered by AICTE-approved institutions, university departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges across India.

  • PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management)
  • Executive MBA (where applicable)
  • Executive PGDM (where applicable)
  • Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) / Ph.D.
  • Specialized Management Programmes (e.g., Business Analytics, Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Operations, Supply Chain Management, International Business)
