DHR-BRET (Department of Health Research - Biomedical Research Eligibility Test)

A student writes the DHR-BRET after completing a postgraduate degree or an eligible professional degree in biomedical science, health sciences, life sciences or related fields.(Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics,..etc)

This examination is for students who wish to pursue research and Ph.D. studies in biomedical and health sciences.

Candidates who qualify become eligible for a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), where they receive a monthly stipend while doing research.

Minimum Marks (Without Rounding Off):

  • 55% - General / EWS / OBC (NCL) candidates
  • 50% - SC / ST / PwBD candidates

Age Limit (Calculated as of application closing date):

  • General / EWS candidates: 35 years
  • OBC (NCL): 3 years relaxation (Up to 38 years)
  • SC / ST / PwBD / All Female Candidates: 5 years relaxation (Up to 40 years)

Final-Year Students: Candidates appearing for their final semester or final year examinations may apply under the "Result Awaited" (RA) category, subject to fulfilling the requirements upon admission.

Question Paper Structure:

  • Part A (50 Questions / 50 Marks): Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Research Methodology, and Bioethics.
  • Part B (50 Questions / 50 Marks): General concepts in Biomedical and Life Sciences.
  • Part C (50 Questions / 50 Marks): Advanced questions from the subject chosen by the candidate.

Marking Scheme:

  • Correct Answer: +1 Mark
  • Wrong Answer: -0.25 Mark
  • Unanswered Question: 0 Marks
