FTII JET (Film and Television Institute of India - Joint Entrance Test)

FTII JET is the entrance examination conducted for admission to various postgraduate film, television, and media courses.

Students who wish to build careers in filmmaking, cinematography, editing, screenwriting, sound design, acting, television production, and related creative fields may apply through this entrance examination.

Mode: Offline (Pen-and-Paper) Written Examination.

Qualification:

  • Most FTII courses require a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Students in the final year of their graduation may apply, provided they can submit their final passing certificate/degree by the time of admission.
  • Art Direction & Production Design: Requires a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent diploma) in Applied Arts, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design, or related Fine Arts fields.
  • Sound Recording & Design (Film/TV): Requires a Bachelor's degree in any discipline plus Physics as a compulsory subject at the 10+2 level.

Age:

  • Candidates must be at least 21 years of age at the time of admission.
  • There is no upper age limit

Minimum Marks

  • There is no fixed minimum percentage prescribed for most courses; candidates only need to have successfully completed their qualifying degree [1.3.1].

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts for the FTII JET

Mode: Offline (Pen-and-Paper) Written Examination.

Frequency: Conducted once a year.

Duration:

  • Stage 1: 2 hours 30 minutes (150 minutes) for most courses (except for MFA in Cinema in Screen Acting, which is 1 hour 30 minutes).

Total Marks: 100 Marks for the Stage 1 Written Test.

Question Type:

  • Paper 1: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • Paper 2: Descriptive / Subjective Questions.

Selection Process:

The FTII admission process consists of two stages:

  • Stage 1 – Written Entrance Test: Includes Paper 1 (60 marks) and Paper 2 (40 marks). It tests general awareness, artistic aptitude, and subject-specific knowledge.
  • Stage 2 – Mixed Format Assessment: Shortlisted candidates undergo practical exercises, auditions (for acting/related courses), orientation activities, and personal interviews at the FTII Pune campus.

Important: Candidates must qualify in Stage 1 to be eligible for Stage 2.

Students who qualify through the FTII JET admission process can join various postgraduate-level courses offered by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Film Wing: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Courses

These are postgraduate degree courses. Students receive an MFA (Master of Fine Arts) in their chosen specialization.

Television Wing: 1-Year PG Certificate Courses

These are industry-focused professional courses. Students receive a Postgraduate Certificate in their chosen field.

  • PG Certificate in Electronic Cinematography

  • PG Certificate in Sound Recording & Television Engineering
