IBPS PO
IBPS PO (Probationary Officer) is a national-level recruitment exam conducted for the recruitment of Probationary Officers and Management Trainees in public-sector banks.
The exam is conducted in two stages: the Preliminary Examination and the Main Examination.
Example: A graduate who wants to become a bank officer in a participating public-sector bank can appear for IBPS PO and, after completing the selection process, may be allotted to one of the participating banks.

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
- English Language: 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
- Quantitative Aptitude: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
- Reasoning Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
- Total: 100 questions, 100 marks, 1 hour
Phase 2: Main Examination
- Reasoning: 40 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
- General/Economy/Banking Awareness, Digital/Financial Awareness: 50 questions, 60 marks, 35 minutes
- English Language: 40 questions, 20 marks, 35 minutes
- Data Analysis & Interpretation: 40 questions, 60 marks, 45 minutes
- Total Objective Test: 170 questions, 200 marks, 160 minutes
Descriptive Test:
- Questions: 2
- Marks: 25
- Duration: 30 minutes
- Topics: Essay and Comprehension
Negative Marking: 1/4th of the marks assigned to a question is deducted for each wrong answer in the objective tests.
Stage 1: Preliminary Examination
- Candidates must qualify in the Preliminary Examination to move to the Main Examination.
Stage 2: Main Examination
- Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are shortlisted for the next stage.
Stage 3: Interview
- Shortlisted candidates appear for a personal interview conducted through the participating banks.
Final Selection:
- Final selection is based on performance in the Main Examination and Interview, along with fulfilment of all eligibility and document requirements.
