JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination - Main)

JEE Main (Joint Entrance Examination - Main) is a national-level entrance exam for students who want to study engineering courses in India.

It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Eligibility: Class 12 Passed or Currently Appearing

Mode of Exam: Computer Based Test (CBT)

Total Questions: 75 Questions (Fixed for B.E. / B.Tech Paper 1)

Frequency: Conducted twice a year (Session 1 in January & Session 2 in April)

Qualification: Passed or appearing in Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with any one of the subjects like chemistry, biotechnology, biology or a technical vocational subject.Appearing = currently in Class 12 (writing exams this year)

Age: No age limit.

Minimum Marks:

  • No minimum percentage required to appear for JEE Main
  • However, for admission to NITs/IIITs, at least 75% (General) or 65% (SC/ST) in Class 12 may be required

Attempts: Candidates can attempt JEE Main up to 3 consecutive years (usually 2 sessions per year).

For JEE Main 2026, you are eligible if you passed Class 12 in:

  • ✅ 2026 (Current Year)
  • ✅ 2025 (1st Attempt)
  • ✅ 2024 (2nd Attempt)
  • ❌ 2023 or earlier – Not Eligible

Note: You can attempt JEE Main twice in a year (January & April sessions).

Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)

Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) + Numerical Value Questions

Exam Frequency: Conducted twice a year (January & April)

Duration: 3 hours (PwD: 4 hours)

Total Questions: 75 (25 per subject)

Total Marks: 300 Marks

Marking Scheme:

  • +4 – for every correct answer
  • -1 – for every wrong answer
  • 0 – for unattempted questions
  • Mathematics: 25 Questions (100 Marks)
    • Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
    • Section B: 5 Numerical Value Questions (Compulsory)

  • Physics: 25 Questions (100 Marks)
    • Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
    • Section B: 5 Numerical Value Questions (Compulsory)

  • Chemistry: 25 Questions (100 Marks)
    • Section A: 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
    • Section B: 5 Numerical Value Questions (Compulsory)

Total: 75 Questions | 300 Marks
