Merit-Based Admission is a process in which colleges and universities select students based on their marks.

They do not need to write any exam.

Example (UG): College give admission to students to a B.Sc. course based on their Class 12 marks instead of an entrance exam.

Example (PG): University give admission to students to an M.Sc. course based on their graduation marks instead of an entrance exam.

Example:

If 10 students apply for a course and the college has only 5 seats

The college may prepare a merit list based on the marks of these 10 students

The top 5 students with the highest marks will be offered admission
