NIMCET (NIT MCA Common Entrance Test)

NIMCET is a national-level entrance examination for students who wants to do Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programmes in National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

Students who wish to study MCA degree in NITs may have to qualify NIMCET.

Conducted by: One of the National Institute of Technology institutes on a rotational basis.

Who Can Apply? Graduates with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject, OR B.E./B.Tech holders (Min 60% marks required).

Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)

Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Frequency: Conducted once a year(usually June)

Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.

Age Limit: No age limit.

Qualification:

  • A Bachelor's degree with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject.
  • OR a B.E. / B.Tech degree in any discipline.

Minimum Marks:

  • General / OBC / EWS: 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA.
  • SC / ST / PwD: 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA.

Attempts: No restriction on the number of attempts.

Final-Year Students: Students appearing for their final year examinations may also apply.

Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test)

Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Exam Frequency: Conducted once a year

Duration: 2 Hours (120 minutes with sectional time limits)

Total Questions: 120 Questions

Total Marks: 1000 Marks (Weighted Score)

Marking Scheme (Subject-wise):

  • Mathematics (50 Questions):
    • ✅ Correct Answer: +12 Marks
    • ❌ Wrong Answer: -3 Marks
  • Analytical Ability & Reasoning (40 Questions):
    • ✅ Correct Answer: +6 Marks
    • ❌ Wrong Answer: -1.5 Marks
  • Computer Awareness (20 Questions):
    • ✅ Correct Answer: +6 Marks
    • ❌ Wrong Answer: -1.5 Marks
  • General English (10 Questions):
    • ✅ Correct Answer: +4 Marks
    • ❌ Wrong Answer: -1 Mark

Note: There is a uniform 25% negative marking penalty for incorrect answers across all subjects. Unattempted questions receive 0 marks.

  • Mathematics: 50 Questions (600 Marks | 70 Minutes allotted)
  • Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning: 40 Questions (240 Marks | 30 Minutes allotted)
  • Computer Awareness: 20 Questions (120 Marks | 20 Minutes allotted*)
  • General English: 10 Questions (40 Marks | *Shared 20 Minutes with Computer section)

Total: 120 Questions | 1000 Marks
