SEED (Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design)

SEED (Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design) is an entrance examination conducted by Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) for admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes.

The exam evaluates a student's creativity, observation skills, visualization ability, problem-solving skills, and design aptitude.

Example: A student interested in Product Design, Communication Design, or User Experience Design can appear for SEED and apply for admission to B.Des programmes offered by SID.

Eligibility: Class 12 (10+2) pass or appearing from a recognized board (Any Stream).

Exam Pattern: Objective design aptitude and creativity-based assessment.

Mode: Online Proctored Test (PC/Laptop-based from home).

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in January).

Qualification:

  • Must have passed the 10+2 level (Class 12) from any recognized Central/State Board in **any stream** (Science, Commerce, Arts, Humanities, etc.).
  • OR: A 10+3 Diploma approved by the State Board of Technical Education.
  • Candidates appearing for their final board/diploma examinations in the admission year are fully eligible to apply provisionally.

Age:

  • There is no upper age limit.

Min mark:

  • General / OBC-NCL Categories: A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying 10+2 or diploma examination.
  • SC / ST Categories: A minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination.

Attempt:

  • There is **no restriction** on the maximum number of attempts .

Duration: 60 Minutes (1 Hour)

Question Type: MCQs, Match the Columns, Fill in the Blanks, Image-based and Comprehension-based Questions

Question Paper Structure:

The SEED examination evaluates a student's design aptitude, observation skills, logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving ability.

  • Visual Sensitivity: Observation and interpretation of images and visual information.
  • Creative Thinking: Ability to generate innovative ideas and design solutions.
  • Analytical Ability: Logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • General Awareness: Knowledge of design, art, culture, and current affairs.
  • Communication Skills: Understanding and interpreting written information.

Marking Scheme:

  • +1 mark for every correct answer
  • No negative marking for incorrect answers
  • 0 marks for unanswered questions

Phase 2 (Shortlisted Candidates Only):

  • Portfolio Review: Submission of creative work such as sketches, illustrations, photography, craft work, or design projects.
  • Personal Interaction: Interview to assess creativity, communication skills, design awareness, and interest in the programme.

Undergraduate Programme (4 Years)

  • B.Des (Bachelor of Design): Available with major specialisations across four umbrellas:
    • *Communication Design:* Graphic Design, Video Film Design, Animation Film Design, User Experience Design.
    • *Industrial Design:* Product Design, Interior Space Design.
    • *Fashion Design*.
    • *Fashion Communication*.

Postgraduate Programme (2 Years)

  • M.Des (Master of Design): Advanced mastery programs focused on comprehensive design research and creative application methodologies.
