XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

XAT is a national-level entrance examination conducted for admission to MBA and other postgraduate management programmes.

XAT scores are accepted by XLRI and more than 250 management institutes across India for admission to MBA, PGDM, and other management programmes.

📌 Quick Facts

Eligibility: Bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

Exam Pattern: Computer-Based Test (CBT) consisting of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Mode: Online (Computer-Based Test).

Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in January).

Qualification:

  • Must hold a Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years duration) in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Students currently in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply, provided they complete all degree requirements within the timeline specified by the respective participating institutes.

Age:

  • There is no upper or lower age limit for appearing in the XAT examination.

Minimum Marks:

  • XAT does not prescribe any minimum percentage or CGPA in graduation. A pass in the qualifying degree is sufficient to apply.
  • Note: Individual participating institutes may have their own minimum marks requirement for admission.

Attempts:

  • There is no restriction on the number of attempts.

Nationality:

  • Indian, NRI, and foreign candidates can apply, subject to the admission rules of the participating institutes.

Mode of Examination: Online (Computer-Based Test).

Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)

Frequency: Conducted once a year (usually in January).

Total Duration: 180 Minutes (3 Hours).

Total Questions: 95 Questions.

Sections Breakdown:

  • Part 1 (170 Minutes):
    • Verbal & Logical Ability (VA & LA): 26 Questions
    • Decision Making (DM): 21 Questions
    • Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (QA & DI): 28 Questions
  • Part 2 (10 Minutes):
    • General Knowledge (GK): 20 Questions

Marking Scheme:

  • Correct Answer: +1 Mark.
  • Incorrect Answer (Part 1): –0.25 Mark.
  • Unattempted Questions (Part 1): No penalty for the first 8 unattempted questions; After that –0.10 Mark for each additional unattempted question.
  • General Knowledge (Part 2): No negative marking; scores are not included in the overall percentile calculation.

Students who qualify through the XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) can apply for postgraduate management programmes offered by XLRI – Xavier School of Management and more than 250 management institutes across India.

  • Business Management (BM)
  • Human Resource Management (HRM)
  • Executive MBA / Executive PGDM (where applicable)
  • Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) / Ph.D.
  • Specialized Management Programmes (e.g., Business Analytics, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Rural Management, Supply Chain Management)

Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria and complete the selection process of the respective institute, which may include a Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT), and/or Personal Interview (PI).
